Social Impact

From a pool of nearly 400 submissions, the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) recently announced the winners of the 2016-17 Awards for Reporting on the Environment, and two awards went to 21st Century Fox’s National Geographic reporters Craig Welch and Rachel Nuwer for their important work in illuminating pressing issues of climate change and the human impact of wild animal welfare around the world.

During a conversation on Thursday morning at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, talked about how National Geographic is breaking through in today’s market, the benefits of 21st Century Fox’s long-standing partnership with National Geographic, the right way to think about A-list talent and the opportunities for women in the TV industry, among other topics. That same evening, Courteney shared remarks at a dinner co-hosted by 21CF at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh celebrating women in media, with special guest National Geographic photographer Amy Toensing.

The annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is known for many things – sunshine, rosé wine and some of the most coveted awards in the advertising industry. Recently, it’s become known for being home to conversations about the difficult issues facing the business with regard to its poor track record of diversity, from the new “Glass Lion” award to honor campaigns that shatter gender stereotypes to a host of panel content about social consciousness in marketing.

At the Tenth Annual Television Academy Honors on June 8, three programs from 21st Century Fox businesses were recognized for harnessing “the extraordinary power of television to advance social change.” The honorees included National Geographic’s “Before the Flood,” a documentary from Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens about the global effects of climate change, as well “

Just over a year ago, 21st Century Fox led an $8 million B funding round for theSkimm, a multi-platform audience company that curates news and events for millennials. 21CF’s newly launched group Women@Fox hosted a conversation on Tuesday, June 6, to catch up with co-founders Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin.
