National Geographic’s bold step into its premium programming strategy less than a year ago has already yielded astounding results, including 15 Primetime Emmy nominations (the most in its history), five projects premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the launch of a number of acclaimed series and documentaries. At its summer 2017 Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation last week, National Geographic laid out the new and returning programming that will continue this strong momentum.

21st Century Fox was well-represented at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2017 last weekend, as 20th Century Fox Film, FX Networks, FOX Broadcasting Company and National Geographic provided plenty of trailers, panels, parties and activations for fans. Here’s a quick rundown.

Events

On July 26, 21st Century Fox and FX Networks teamed up with nonprofit CreativeFuture and the bipartisan Congressional Creative Rights Caucus (CRC) for a panel discussion to give members of Congress and their staff a behind-the-scenes look at “Snowfall” (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT), the new FX drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles. The conversation also touched on the importance of copyright protection and its impact on job creation.

21st Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures recently hosted a Washington, D.C., screening of the upcoming documentary “STEP,” which will hit theaters Friday, Aug. 4.

National Geographic recently hosted two premier events in Europe: the National Geographic Science Festival in Rome; and the National Geographic Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. The two events were opportunities to connect thousands of adults, children and institutions to the National Geographic brand, as well as a number of featured speakers, including iconic primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall.

The Fox Pride LGBT-Straight Alliance hosted an executive panel discussion during Pride Month at the Zanuck Theatre on the Fox lot in Los Angeles last week.

Social Impact

Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, was honored with the Broadcast, Cable & Film Award by the UJA-Federation of New York Monday evening for her professional and philanthropic achievements.

Just over a year ago, 21st Century Fox led an $8 million B funding round for theSkimm, a multi-platform audience company that curates news and events for millennials. 21CF’s newly launched group Women@Fox hosted a conversation on Tuesday, June 6, to catch up with co-founders Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin.

Fox Networks Group (FNG) presented its 2017-18 primetime programming schedule in an entertaining event at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Monday, May 15. The presentation, which featured both FNG executives and talent from FOX’s current and upcoming shows, underscored the quantifiable value of FOX’s audience across platforms and previewed the schedule for returning and new primetime series for the upcoming season.
