In February 1968, the film “Planet of the Apes” premiered in U.S. theaters. The movie, which was adapted from Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel, “Monkey Planet,” starred Charlton Heston as an astronaut aboard a spaceship that crash-lands on a seemingly foreign, desolate planet ruled by apes.

The 2001 sci-fi action movie “Planet of the Apes,” produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox Film, was adapted from the 1968 classic of the same name. It was released in U.S. theaters on July 27, 2001, and went on to finish as one of the top 10 worldwide grossing movies of the year.
