On Wednesday, Sept. 13, 21st Century Fox, along with colleagues at National Geographic, hosted a reception and sneak preview of the new documentary special “Breaking2” (airing Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 8/7c on National Geographic Channel) at Nike’s Field House in Washington, D.C.

At the inaugural Global Positive Forum in Paris on Friday, Sept. 1, Susan Goldberg, National Geographic magazine Editor-in-Chief and National Geographic Partners Editorial Director, discussed the power of storytelling to change the world. National Geographic is an official partner of the new conference, which was created under the patronage of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. The goal of the Global Positive Forum is to “give voice to agents of change around the world, people who are thinking and acting in new ways, and leading positive initiatives,” all in hopes of making the world of tomorrow better than the world today.

Social Impact

From a pool of nearly 400 submissions, the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) recently announced the winners of the 2016-17 Awards for Reporting on the Environment, and two awards went to 21st Century Fox’s National Geographic reporters Craig Welch and Rachel Nuwer for their important work in illuminating pressing issues of climate change and the human impact of wild animal welfare around the world.

During a conversation on Thursday morning at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, talked about how National Geographic is breaking through in today’s market, the benefits of 21st Century Fox’s long-standing partnership with National Geographic, the right way to think about A-list talent and the opportunities for women in the TV industry, among other topics. That same evening, Courteney shared remarks at a dinner co-hosted by 21CF at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh celebrating women in media, with special guest National Geographic photographer Amy Toensing.

National Geographic’s bold step into its premium programming strategy less than a year ago has already yielded astounding results, including 15 Primetime Emmy nominations (the most in its history), five projects premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the launch of a number of acclaimed series and documentaries. At its summer 2017 Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation last week, National Geographic laid out the new and returning programming that will continue this strong momentum.

21st Century Fox received a grand total of 113 Primetime Emmy® Awards from the Television Academy today.  The race to the nominations is over, we're looking forward to big wins at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 17.

National Geographic recently hosted two premier events in Europe: the National Geographic Science Festival in Rome; and the National Geographic Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. The two events were opportunities to connect thousands of adults, children and institutions to the National Geographic brand, as well as a number of featured speakers, including iconic primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
