It also put a spotlight on the shows that are returning and debuting for FOX in the fall and winter.

FOX’s blockbuster television drama “Empire” certainly has eye-popping numbers to boast about: a total multiplatform audience of 23 million, a more than 20 percent lead over the second most popular broadcast show and 39 nominations for a variety of prestigious awards, for example. But stopping at the show’s numbers and rankings is missing the larger story.
