With host nation Ghana’s 4-1 victory over Nigeria in the final match on Sunday, Sept. 24, the inaugural West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations tournament came to a close. This new sporting event was broadcast in 22 countries in Africa, and distributed to more than 125 million FOX Sports subscribers across Africa, Europe, Asia and the U.S.

FOX Sports launched in 1994 as a single network with just one sport. Now, it is paving the way in sports broadcasting. Last week, FOX Sports celebrated its birthday on the Fox Studios Lot in Los Angeles with an inaugural Founders Day, kicking off its 24th NFL season.

Heritage

The Fox Newman Scoring Stage, named after famed composer and Fox Music Director from 1939 to 1959 Alfred Newman, was constructed in 1928. It was designed by C.H. Muldorfer and built by George E. Miller before being converted to a scoring stage in 1936. During the past 81 years, a number of films and television series have been scored here.

Social Impact

To mark the release of “Battle of the Sexes” (in theaters Friday, Sept. 22), the new Fox Searchlight film about the legendary tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, parent company 21st Century Fox will donate a portion of ticket sales to the Women’s Sports Foundation, founded by King to empower female athletes.
