After nearly 900 games played between more than 200 nations over almost 1,000 days, the 2018 World Cup qualification process is finally over, and FOX Sports is less than 200 days away from its first World Cup presentation. The 32 countries that will play in the big tournament hosted in Russia have finished a long journey and will soon embark on another one. The same can be said for Emmy Award-winning FOX Sports host Fernando Fiore, who will broadcast his eighth World Cup in 2018.

Last month FOX Sports Latin America acquired the broadcasting rights to six of the 16 teams in Liga MX Femenil, a Mexican women’s league. The champion was determined last week in a two-part final broadcast exclusively on FS2: On Monday, Nov. 20, Pachuca defeated Chivas 2-0; on Friday, Nov. 24, Chivas defeated Pachuca 3-0 to ultimately win the title 3-2 on aggregate.

Heritage

The Starhead collection is a small portion of the Fox Archive’s larger photograph collection. It consists of portraits and candid images of employees (i.e., actors, actresses, writers, directors, production executives, etc.) who were contracted by Fox when the star system was in place.

Earlier this week, FOX Sports hosted a special screening event in New York for “89 Blocks,” a documentary that tells the story of the East St. Louis High School Flyers football team in Illinois.

Endemol Shine Group CEO Sophie Turner Laing and 21st Century Fox co-hosted a screening of Fox Searchlight’s “Battle of the Sexes” last evening in London. The event was held ahead of the U.K. release for “Battle of the Sexes” (Friday, Nov. 24) and celebrated the achievements of the women portrayed in the film.

On Friday, Nov. 10, 21st Century Fox Global Inclusion hosted a breakfast to honor the 25 participants of 20th Century Fox’s inaugural Fox Filmmakers Lab, a highly selective lab designed to help increase the number of female directors working in the industry.

As Puerto Rico continues to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Maria in September, Fox Networks Group is set to unveil a new documentary series about the nonprofit Team Rubicon and its disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico, the continental United States, and beyond.

On Veterans Day last year, a plaque was installed on the Fox Lot in Los Angeles to honor all Fox colleagues who serve and have served in defense of the United States. In honor of Veterans Day this year, Fox Vets laid a wreath on the plaque and erected flags representing each branch of the military, including a POW/MIA flag in remembrance of prisoner-of-war and missing-in-action service members.

Events

To mark Veterans Day (Saturday, Nov. 11) in the U.S., FOX Sports hosted a number of special programming events this past weekend. From Thursday through Sunday, FOX Sports invited active military members and veterans to be part of live studio audiences and took some of its shows on the road to Pier 10 on the Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia.
