Social Impact

Nearly 500 of 21st Century Fox’s colleagues in Texas are affected by the unprecedented rainfall from Hurricane Harvey, including those based in Fox Networks Group’s critical network operations center in The Woodlands and the local Fox Television Stations. As an initial step in its response to the flooding and devastation in that area, the company is donating $500,000 to United Way of Greater Houston’s relief fund.

By now, millions of people have seen the trailer for “American Horror Story: Cult” (premiering Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX), the seventh season of FX Networks’ hit limited-series franchise. But co-creator, executive producer, writer and director Ryan Murphy thinks some people misunderstand what the new season will be about.

We are fewer than 300 days away from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, which means FOX Sports is that many days away from broadcasting its first World Cup presentation. When the biggest tournament for the biggest sport in the world begins on June 15, 2018, it will be the culmination of more than four years of planning, practice and “international diplomacy,” according to David Neal, Executive Producer of FIFA World Cup on FOX and Vice President of Production for FOX Sports.

From a pool of nearly 400 submissions, the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) recently announced the winners of the 2016-17 Awards for Reporting on the Environment, and two awards went to 21st Century Fox’s National Geographic reporters Craig Welch and Rachel Nuwer for their important work in illuminating pressing issues of climate change and the human impact of wild animal welfare around the world.

During a conversation on Thursday morning at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, talked about how National Geographic is breaking through in today’s market, the benefits of 21st Century Fox’s long-standing partnership with National Geographic, the right way to think about A-list talent and the opportunities for women in the TV industry, among other topics. That same evening, Courteney shared remarks at a dinner co-hosted by 21CF at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh celebrating women in media, with special guest National Geographic photographer Amy Toensing.

Though rarely used today, slant boards (also known as leaning boards) were commonly found on movie sets. They were designed to allow reclining without wrinkling neatly pressed costumes, reclining when the costume was too snug for the actor to sit or reclining when the immense weight of the costume limited mobility.
